Freedom Sneaks By...

Uh-oh, looks like freedom of speech snuck by the television network censors last night. I have to wonder why, in a country based on freedom of speech, we are suddenly so afraid of words. I also found it interesting that on the later west-coast feed, only the criticism of President Bush was cut out. Isn't one of the signs of a great leader allowing and even considering the validity of criticism? All I can say is, way to go Kanye West!

Story With Video Here

Oh, and please don't tell me there should be limits to freedom of speech. If somebody can call me unpatriotic because I said there was no proof of WM's in Iraq, the limits have already been stretched!

buying software.....

Let's talk about the software buying experience. If you go out tonite and buy a television and when you get home it does not work, you take it back, they apologize for the inconvenience and give you a new one. Done. Now, buy software online. I recently bought a video editing program. It did not work. I sent a very kind email asking for help. I got NO RESPONSE. I sent another, I got NO RESPONSE. I went to their forum, asked if anyone wanted to join me in suing the company, and got an INSTANT RESPONSE. Of course it took two weeks and three phone calls to actually get the new discs shipped to me.

I then bought an e-mail client. All premium features work, save one. When I use that feature it tells me that I should buy the premium version that I just bought. I sent and e-mail for support and am still waiting on that one. Tomorrow I will call the President of their company who may finally get someone to pay attention to a paying customer.

I recently paid for Blogger Pro. There is a problem right now with the titles that should be above these little rants not showing up. Before that there was a problem with the ad remaining at the top of the page. I am asking for my money back. Because of a couple of niggling problems??? NO! Because I received an e-mail tersely telling me to file an issue at the support page after I ALREADY HAD! Then when I got out to the support page it had this nice box that said "We notice you are a free blogger user..." REALLY??? Then what the hell did I pay for??? They don't even have the decency to recognize that you paid for the non-working product!

It is truly exasperating. All I ask is to be treated with a little courtesy and respect. All I ask is that someone actually read the e-mail I send to support before commenting on it. Is that really too much to ask???

Will somebody please tell the idiot in the White House to try and formulate an actual policy and stick with it for more than an hour. Is it my imagination or does the White House change it's mind on Iraq, North Korea, the economy (on the rare occasion it looks at the economy) and virtually everything else, every five minutes???

And then there are the Democrats! Have they all been muzzled? Does no one have anything to say in opposition to the warmongering, gas-guzzling, corporate lackeys on the other side of the aisle? Has everyone been completely neutered by the fear of being called un-patriotic if they happen to disagree with the end of diplomacy, killing of innocent civilians and possible nuclear war all in the name of personal revenge and controlling Middle-Eastern oil? Meanwhile the powers that be are totally bambozzled by a real nuclear and terrorist threat in North Korea!!!

From American City Business Journals Inc.:

"Retail has always been about more than simply selling CDs," says Jerry Comstock, CEO of Wherehouse Music. "We are in the customer relationship business."

Earlier this month, Wherehouse Entertainment Inc. filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code, saying its woes were due in part to illegal downloading of music on the Internet.

-end quote, begin rant-

Yup, it's all that illegal downloading. Then again, maybe Wherehouse just really missed the mark on that "customer relationship business" thing??? Yeah, I'm thinking maybe that had just a little bit to do with it. There go those damned customers, voting with their wallets again! Maybe if companies would stop telling the customer what they want and started listening to the customer..... Nahhhhhh!

oh my aching head....

I have one of those hangovers that make you swear you will never, ever, ever drink again. I think it was the jello shooters. I really need to drink more so I can develop some kind of tolerance. Of course, if I did that then it would cost alot more to get drunk on the rare occasions that I do.

Ok, I will remain a cheap, slobbering idiot who can't handle alcohol but has plenty of cash at the end of the nite. I'm so glad I worked that out. Waitress, more coffee please.

If Bill Billionaire paid 2 million dollars in taxes (after his accountants get done working the books) on his 8 billion dollars in income, and Suzy Sausagehead pays 30 thousand dollars in taxes on her 75k in income, is this a fair and equitable deal? If not, why do we keep electing people (in America, of course, apologies to the international readers on this one) who think this is a good way to divide the tax burden? Why do we continue to defend the ultra-rich while the pay multi-million dollar salaries to CEOs who lay off 50k a year workers? Why is a huge percentage of the wealth in America (and the world) being hoarded by a very small group of people? Why do we continue electing people who allow this to happen?

Ok, who am I? Wow, I guess you will get to know more about that as I go along. For now, some basics. I am a sophomore in college and I am studying psychology and sort of minoring in sociology. No, I am not a socialist. It's amazing how many people think that if you study sociology, you must be a socialist. But, that's a subject for a future rant. Oh yeah, I rant a lot. Some will be amusing, some will be thought provoking, some will be putrid garbage. Sometimes I'll just write about things that I need to dump off on the universe. Eventually I will figure out how to put an e-mail address on here (without getting spammed to death) and you are certainly welcome to send me suggestions, comments, tell me I am full of shit, whatever.

So, what else? I live in Maryland. I grew up in, of all places, Las Vegas. Believe me, growing up there is definitely as interesting as it sounds. Yes, they actually have schools, churches, homes, malls, etc. Really. I spent 4 years in the Navy, driving a submarine around the ocean. That is NOT as interesting as it sounds.

Ok, I'm going to post this and see if it works. More later...
